What is an elevator pitch?

  • If you’re looking for a job, you can use the elevator pitch on the job, LinkedIn or your social media bio. Elevator speeches are a great way to gain confidence in introducing yourself to hiring managers and company representatives.
  • You can also use the elevator pitch to introduce yourself to seek networking. If you attend professional association programs and activities , or any other type of gathering, have an offer ready to share with the people you meet.
  • Elevator pitches can also be used for job interviews, especially when you’re being asked about yourself. Interviewers often start with the question, “Tell me about yourself .”
How to convey an elevator tone?
1. Set the time.

The pitch of the elevator can range from 20 to 60 seconds, 30 seconds is the goal. 

2. Practice.

Practice your elevator pitch in the mirror. This may seem silly at first, but it can help you with facial expressions, timing and confidence.

3. Speak clearly.

Talking too fast is a big no-no when delivering an elevator pitch. If you speak too fast, it will be difficult for the audience to understand what you are explaining.

3. Highlight the key points of your products and services.

Most businesses have lots of moving parts, but there’s no time to tell long stories in the elevator pitch. Instead, pull out the main points of your business and best-selling offers to engage your audience. Think about the big picture, and instead of just listing the benefits of the product, show the value. Consider the following.

Is your product unique and interesting because?

  • Rare? 
  • Exclusive/patented?
  • Hard to get? 
  • Available at an unbeatable price? 
  • Technologically superior?

Is your company unique and credible because?

  • Has it been around for a long time?
  • Is an innovator in his industry?
  • Is it owned or financed by a respected and well-known person?
  • Have won a prestigious award?

What is your service?

  • Solving a problem that no one else can?
  • Solving the problem in a more comprehensive or convenient way?
4. Decide what you want the person to do at the end of your promotion.

The purpose of the elevator pitch is to motivate the listener to take some action.

If listeners are potential customers, you might want them?

  • Schedule appointments with salespeople.
  • Visit your business.
  • Get a quote.
  • Add your company to the list of offers.
