Getting to Know 6 Types of Renewable Energy

Getting to Know 6 Types of Renewable Energy. Renewable energy is an energy resource from nature that is unlimited or inexhaustible. In developed countries, renewable energy is the main energy source used as fuel, with a percentage of 80% of use compared to fossil fuels. Most developing countries are still very dependent on fossil fuels. Only about 5%-6% of developing countries are already using renewable energy.

Do you know what types of renewable energy are? Let’s discuss the types of renewable energy:

Getting to Know 6 Types of Renewable Energy

Sea wave

Ocean waves are renewable energy sourced from waves which can be converted into electrical energy using a turbine. Turbines or buoys that go up and down are driven directly by ocean waves, then turn a generator to produce electricity. However, the generation of electrical energy can also be generated by utilizing changes in air pressure in space that cause ocean waves. This air pressure then rotates the turbine and drives the generator to finally produce electricity. Areas that have the greatest potential for the development of ocean wave energy usually have high wind speeds.

Solar power is a renewable energy sourced from the sun’s heat. This energy can be converted into electricity using technologies such as solar heating, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal electricity, solar architecture, and artificial photosynthesis.

Wind is a form of energy that can be converted into electricity by utilizing wind flow to drive turbines.

Geothermal heat is heat trapped beneath the earth’s crust from the formation of the earth 4.5 billion years ago and from radioactive decay. Sometimes large amounts of this heat escape naturally, but all at once, produce familiar events, such as volcanic eruptions and geysers.

Bioenergy is a type of renewable energy derived from biomass. Biomass is energy made from fuel obtained from natural, renewable sources. The materials for making biomass energy are categorized into two types. The first comes from animals in the form of microorganisms or macroorganisms, and the second comes from plants, such as plant residues from processing or direct harvest.

Renewable energy is very beneficial for society as an alternative to fossil fuels, which will eventually run out. There are many benefits that can be felt by the community directly, such as:

  • Minimize the effects of global warming
  • Unlimited energy sources
  • Improving public health
  • Save resources and money
  • Creating jobs and opportunities
